Each year, as the days become shorter and the nights longer, people throughout the world gather together to celebrate the wonder of light. One such way is with the Spiral of Lights–a contemplative and nature-based experience during this time of year. Evergreen boughs are laid out in a large spiral, the room is darkened, music is played, and in the center of the spiral a large candle is lit. One by one, each participant carries an unlit candle to the center of the spiral, where they light their candle. Once lit, the participant walks back out, choosing a spot along the spiral to set their candle. Each participant adds to the collective light and slowly the room is aglow. It is the celebration of quiet confidence, of carrying light into the darkness, and sharing our light with the community.
Please join us for our community Spiral of Lights on the Winter Solstice, the darkest day of the year, Saturday, Dec 21st from 4-6pm in the Library’s Community Room. All are welcome! Children may walk alone or with a parent/caregiver. No one is required to walk; it can also be a wonderful experience to watch others.
Some guidelines:
–if coming with children, please tie long hair back and avoid loose/flowy clothing
–please refrain from having phones out or taking pictures.
We hope you can make it to this wonderful event! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.
